Maka in Hawaiian means “eyes” and Olo is a new color discovered by scientists meaning “bluish-green”. Olo in Hawaiian means “people weeping together” as is the case when something is lost. I wrote Maka Olo on the Big Island and was inspired in part by a young Hawaiian woman who is building a house by herself out of hand-cut lava rocks in respect and admiration for the ancient Hawiians who built structures in the same manner. I asked ‘Why?” and she told me that it would last thousands of years.

Dry Sails was put together during the Covid lockdown. I wrote many of the tunes when backpacking in Maui and utilized various open tunings. The tracks were recorded and mixed “dry” with no reverb or digital delay, using condenser microphones and close mic proximity for an intimate "tiny desk" sound.

In Search Of The Perfect Apple began when the Golden Delicious apple trees in my Idyllwild backyard were stuffed with amazing apples one year. I came up with the idea to put microphones up in the trees to record as I climbed on a ladder looking for the "perfect apple" and then eating it. Inspired, I went into my studio to compose and record music.
